An introduction to Seismoscopes!

This interesting instrument (候风地动仪 in mandarin) was created by Zhang Heng (79-39 AD), an inventor, astronomer, engineer, scientist, scholar, and artist. This device, was created 2000 years ago and was the first ever earthquake sensing invention and was the leading instrument in the field of seismology. It was said to be able to detect earthquakes from hundreds of kilometers away and was engineered to react to wind and air.
