A seismograph is a very sensitive instrument (a tool and/or a machine) that records and measures earthquakes. When an earthquake occurs, there are vibrations that go in all directions from the "point of fracture" (the first location or place where the Earthquake cracks the ground). These vibrations are detected (picked up) by the seismograph.
